Returning from the Christmas break, we were at the halfway mark, Studying Digital Advertising and Design now for a year and a half. It has flown by, realising we as a class just have one and a half more years left until we are 'outta Rave'.
We begun the new year back at rave with a new brief of course. Derek our course leader was the one who briefed us as a class. To summarise, we have been asked to completely brand a conference aimed at 16-24 year old young people. The whole point of this conference in which we will be putting together and running on the day is to invite young people and show them how diverse and powerful the creative industry is. As well as creating a visual identity, visual language, tone of voice and an awareness strategy. It is much more than just creating a logo, it is all about how to generate and create conversations that will get people talking about issues and ideas related to the event.
We all split off into teams of our choice, My team consists of Harry who I won the science museum pitch alongside and finally Ollie. We chose each other because We all work well together, communication and execution being our main strengths. The first task as teams was to brainstorm ideas for the actual name of the conference, three speakers which we would want at the conference and a one liner. Below you can see our first ideas, we chose RAW. This was because we came up with the concept that us young creatives are the Raw Ingredients to the industry. At the end of the afternoon we all team by team presented our concepts and eventually through a vote system all decided on the name to go forward with.
The final name we all decided on for the conference was "UNTITLED". The whole concept behind UNTITLED was that it reflects back to us young creatives being a blank canvas into the creative industry, we have the ability to make whatever we want out of ourselves, there is maximum freedom in this industry.
The next task for us as a team was to go away and now come up with:
- An insight & visual concept.
- Defining statements related to tone of voice/ attitude/ behaviour
- Ideas for a visual language. Ideas for an Eventbrite image.
- Ideas for how all of this might relate marketing materials/ strategies.
We have come up with a whole range of ideas for these four bullet points. I will only point out a few for now as we have not yet presented our ideas. For the insight we came up with the fact that the majority of students are unclear of the next step in their career. We as a team want to stick to very clean simple negative space black and white to portray a blank canvas as our visual language.
