To kick start 2019 on the Advertising and Brand Design course, we were told to begin to focus and think about our Final Major Project area of focus, which can be entirely up to us! This holds both positives and negatives, the positives being we have the freedom to hone in on what we have always wanted to do. But the negatives being not able to decide on ONE area.
We begun by having one on one tutorial/drop in sessions with our tutors, mine was with Derek and proved to really get the ball rolling when I came out of it. Below you can see the a3 spreads we cluttered with thoughts and angles to think about. I knew that my focus area would be to do with Music as music is something I cannot go without for longer than half an hour. I am submerged in the underground music community and I can say I have a very updated and plugged insight into Underground music culture, something in which that will help me pinpoint a focus to exploit.
In terms of my creative process, I like to go straight for the old fashion pen and paper and just throw down a crazy messy mind map with all of my thoughts in relation to areas of focus. I split the mind map you can see below into sections under the headings Themes, Subjects, Problems and Opportunities. This way it allowed me to gather a wealthy bank of ideas to put into my presentation
Following on from the one to one tutorial, the following day we had a group crit presentation. The purpose of this was to put forward a deck of our FMP proposal and choosing one of the D&AD New blood briefs. My presentation consisted of a brief introduction of the research I have carried out in the early stages splitting them up into four categories. The first half of my crit presentation was all about my FMP. The second half was about why I have chosen the Bacardi Brief and how I can link it to my FMP.
When I looked at all of the new blood briefs and also thinking which one would most likely suit my passions and ambitions. The Bacardi one stood out immediately. It was right up my street in terms of the outcomes which they were after, the target audience they wanted to capture and finally the type of theme they want throughout which is self expression and using the power of music.
